As part of its programs and policy towards complementing the educational drives of the State government, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has donated 90 school desks and 24 tables to 3 schools in Ukwa West LGA.
Handing over the desks and tables to the Headmistresses of the 3 schools, the General Manager of the Commission Venerable Dr. Joshua Onyeike said that the donation was in fulfilment of the Commission's resolve to provide education aids to the pupils and students across the schools in the oil producing communities and beyond.
The General Manager, represented by the Director in charge of the education Unit of the Commission, Mrs. Ihuoma Onuegbu informed that the provision of the materials was powered by the state Governor, Dr Alex Otti, adding that the Commission has continued to sustain its undergraduate scholarship scheme, renovation of school blocks and the registration of WAEC and JAMB for indigent students of the areas. She further disclosed that more schools would benefit from the donations.
The Director urged the students to make good use of the materials as provided and to take their studies seriously for the betterment of their future.
In their various responses ,the Headmistresses of Central School Obehie, Mrs. Regina Onwuka, Community Primary School, Umunteke Asa, Mrs. Nlewem Florence and Community Primary school Umuiku Ozaar Asa all in Ukwa West LGA expressed their profound joy over the distribution pointing out that the pupils have suffered for lack of school desks for long and applauded the Commission under the leadership of Dr. Joshua Onyeike and the State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, for their resounding support to them and provision of good governance in the State.
Also speaking a teacher from Obehie Central School, Mrs Oluchi Ogbonna and a pupil from the same school Miss Chinaza Chinecherem thanked ASOPADEC and Governor Alex Otti for remembering them.
Highlights of the occasion were donation of 90 desks for the pupils and over 20 tables for the teachers of the schools and rendition of appreciation song by the pupils of the schools.
